In Partnership with Christ Our Redeemer Seminary

Marannook seeks a Ministry Resident to join our team for a three-year transformational leadership development program. This residency pairs rigorous theological education through Christ Our Redeemer Seminary (CORS) with hands-on, full-scope camp ministry experience — including programming, staff training, camper discipleship, on site prep, and host responsibilities.

This position is designed for individuals called to vocational or non profit ministry who desire deep preparation in a mission-driven ministry environment. Marannook has faithfully served campers and college students since 1975 with a passion for knowing Christ and making Him known. The resident will serve alongside our Executive Director and ministry team, gaining breadth of experience across every dimension of camp and nonprofit ministry.

Position Overview

Title: Ministry Resident
Location: Lafayette, Alabama — Marannook (10425 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, Lafayette, AL 36862)
Duration: Three years (August 2026 – August 2029)
Reports To: Marannook staff
Time Commitment: Approximately 10-15 hours per week with leadership roles in the summer and during offseason retreats and/or family camp.

Time allocation:

  • ~30 hours per week: Seminary coursework at Christ Our Redeemer Seminary
  • 10-15 hours per week: Ministry service at Marannook, including program development, staff development and recruitment, guest relations, marketing, and nonprofit ministry skills

Core Responsibilities

Theological & Missiological Formation

  • Complete all Christ Our Redeemer Seminary coursework with excellence
  • Apply theological learning to the complexities of camp and nonprofit ministry contexts
  • Develop a biblical theology of discipleship, preaching, pastoral care, and community
  • Grow in the integration of Gospel proclamation with compassionate, holistic ministry
  • Gain competency in work required daily, teaching, and leadership from a Reformed evangelical perspective

Camp Ministry Service

  • Serve as a full time ministry staff member during summer camp seasons
  • Contribute to program development — activity planning, and weekly schedule execution
  • Assist in staff development and counselor training, including spiritual formation and skill-building
  • Support camper discipleship through direct care, cabin life, and mentorship
  • Participate in offseason programming, retreats, and guest group hosting

Nonprofit Operations & Development

  • Learn and contribute to communications and stewardship efforts.
  • Gain exposure to nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and board governance
  • Assist with marketing, digital communications, and social media presence
  • Support recruitment pipelines for summer staff and year-round team roles
  • Participate in grant writing, reporting, and ministry impact documentation

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Active Christian faith committed to the authority of Scripture and evangelical theology
  • Demonstrated sense of calling to pastoral, vocational, or camp ministry
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team, mission-driven environment
  • Strong biblical knowledge and growing theological understanding
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Emotional maturity, self-awareness, and a genuine openness to feedback
  • Physical and emotional stamina for the demands of residential camp ministry
  • Background check clearance, valid driver’s license, and US work eligibility
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Criminal background check consent required
  • Alignment with Marannook’s statement of faith

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in camp, church, or youth ministry contexts
  • Some experience in public speaking, group teaching, or leadership roles
  • Familiarity with nonprofit operations, donor development, or communications
  • Prior study of theology, biblical studies, or Christian education
  • Training in biblical counseling, pastoral care, or discipleship

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Hourly compensation based on education and experience; set stipend paid during summer camp season
  • Tuition Support: Marannook will contribute $3,500 annually toward CORS MDiv tuition
  • Housing: Residents are responsible for securing personal housing; Marannook will assist in connecting residents with local housing options in the Lafayette/Auburn corridor
  • Support-Raising: Residents are encouraged to raise supplemental support through home church, family, and individual donors; CORS provides training in biblical stewardship and support-raising through their 4:15 Program

About Marannook

Marannook was founded in 1975 with the mission of knowing Christ and making Him known. Situated on 177 acres in Lafayette, Alabama, Marannook is a Christian residential summer camp and year-round nonprofit ministry serving 1,300+ campers annually. We have trained over 700 college students and served more than 16,000 campers across our history. Marannook operates as a 501(c)(3) with a full-time staff team and a board-governed structure committed to Gospel-centered
ministry and operational excellence.

About Christ Our Redeemer Seminary

Christ Our Redeemer Seminary (CORS) is a partnership of local churches and ministries in the Auburn/Opelika area committed to equipping Christlike leaders for God’s global mission. Rooted in the Reformed evangelical tradition, CORS helps students reposition theology within the context of and in service of the mission — equipping aspiring leaders to develop a missiological vision for contemporary ministry.

Modeled after Paul’s mentorship of Timothy (2 Timothy 2:2), CORS employs a formal apprenticeship approach that integrates robust theological reflection, ministry practice, and the application of the gospel to matters of the heart.

Application Process

  1. Apply to Christ Our Redeemer Seminary at christourredeemer.org/application. In your application, note that you are applying for the Marannook Pastoral Residency. Upon acceptance to CORS, you will be considered for the Marannook residency.
  2. Initiate a conversation with Marannook. Contact Taylor Teel (taylor@marannook.org or 678.551.3068) to schedule an introductory call or interview. Be prepared to share your testimony, your sense of calling, and your vision for three years of ministry preparation. References from pastors, mentors, or ministry leaders who can affirm your character and calling will be requested.
  3. Attend orientation and onboarding. Review camp history, traditions, team culture, and ministry priorities. Begin in July to prepare for the seminary academic year in August.

  • CORS Modular Courses: Evangelism & Discipleship — May 29–30 and June 5–6
